If not wind power, then what?

You have to compare it to something, for e.g. is it worse than having a coal plant 900m away?

I live in a region blessed with hydroelectricity, but not everyone does.

  2. Thanks for your comment. I whole heartedly agree with your theory. However it appears more consideration is given to the effect on wildlife, archaelogical preservation and views than the loss of amenity and potential health effect of the residents they are sticking them beside. It seems we come second after the badgers, bats, birds etc. Obviously wildlife preservation is important but I think the human population deserve at least equal protection.

  3. Why don’t they build them far away from inhabited areas? It’s like there is a conspiracy to build them close to inhabited areas to make people hate this clean energy.

  4. I am pleased to hear that, knowing it may help inform people beforehand of what can be expected makes the time, effort and money I put into making it worthwhile. A 78m hub height turbine 350m from the nearest residence, wow that is crazy, once again good luck.

  5. You might be pleased to know that this clip has been circulated amongst many of our action group members. It has helped to show people in our village how far the flicker affects can be seen. The propoal here is for a 78m (hub height) turbine – we are waiting for planning application to be submitted in the next few days.

  6. Hi Liz, thank you for your comment. These turbines are 110m tall from ground to upper blade tip. Good luck with your fight, I think 350m away is way to close no matter the size of the turbine. I felt I had to make this video as developers hide behind misrepresented data like its fact, and the less informed accept it to be fact until its to late for them. eg this winter we were afffected by shadow flicker from one of the turbines 1.9km away, thats over 20 times the rotor diameter of these turbines

  7. Hi there. Can you tell me what height these turbines are please. I am currently fighting a battle to stop one which will only be 350m away from the nearest residence. Thank you for posting your video. It has been really interesting.

  8. from what I have learned, it is reserved by law that noise level in inhabited areas should not be higher than 30dB in the night and 40dB during the day

  9. Jim Smith says:

Before you start trying to insult and belittle people – how close to a windturbine do YOU live?

  10. Its actually around 40dB(A) LA90,10mins in that video so not that loud, but then loudness was not the point I was trying to demonstate, if it was I would have put on the 57dB(A) LA90,10min video I have. The point of this video is to demonstrate noise character and the audibility of the wind turbines over background noise to show that masking does not occur to the degree that Ren-UK etc claim.

  11. The definition of the word noise, includes more than just its loudness. Noise character plays a huge part when describing noise as annoying, a dripping tap can be more annoying than a jet flying over. In the case of wind turbine noise it is it AM (Amplitude Modulation) or whooshing character that makes it so annoying, not necessarly the maximum dB(A) level.

  12. wicked1one2 says:

If you amplify the signal by 10x or 100x (or whatever you did).. You will get that noise which could be only from you sound card/camera/wind or i don’t know maybe your farts.
Why there is no “windfarm” noise when you talk?

–because the sound is not amplified.

  13. wicked1one2 says:

    “Whisper Quiet Library 30dB
    Normal conversation (3-5′) 60-70dB”

You are getting around 42dB and when you are talking it is 60dB so whats the point? I bet you don’t even know what you are talking about. country boy

  14. The Rossi E-Cat system will replace these…

  15. @DrDave953Thanks for your comment, I agree temp sensor is prob a bit high, wind speed and direction were all I was really concerned with when I put the station up. Will get round to adjusting it all some time.

  16. DrDave953 says:

The big problem is noise in the frequencies between 1 & 20Hz. This is essentially inaudible but you FEEL it.
This noise cannot be blocked by buildings!
Like your weather station BTW but isn’t your temp sensor a bit high?
    Dave.

  17. goldngrem calls wind power “clean energy”, which is hardly the case. In addition to the noise pollution and outright ugliness these things add to the countryside, consider the destruction of forest and other land in order to build roads to the remote installation locations. Consider the vast amounts of concrete poured as bases, and consider the plastics and other materials they’re made of, those are constructed in traditional industrial facilities, and do not magically appear. Not clean at all.

  18. breakaleg10 says:

Where I live, Sweden, we have two turbines not far from my home. They are placed on top of a hill and even though they are 8 km (about 5 miles) away they can be heard on a windy night. I hate them, not only for their noise but for their ineffeciency.

  19. I feel so sorry for you man. Great video anyway and I will try so share it around

  20. ruralgrubby says:

This is exactly what they sound like and most of the time the reading are below 50 dBA which are considered in compliance in Ontario. Yet this is what we are expected to live with and simply be “annoyed”.

  21. quixoteofalba says:

Fantastic video which should be essential viewing for all councillors and Ministers involved in approving wind farms. Much complaint prior to wind farms but little documented proof of the reality of living with wind turbines. For an erstwhile supporter of Wind, David is an excellent advocate of the anti wind lobby. There are practical alternatives from Thorium to Osmotic generation to name but two. Other alternatives have not the destructive influence to our wellbeing that wind has.

  22. akond0fswat says:

Thank you for the information. I would never have thought that wind generators can be such a problem.

  23. goldngrem says:

Wow! This is an excellent video. I had no idea this form of clean energy could be so annoying. Keep up the great work! Maybe someone in the gov’t will hear you.
