On July 5th, 2012 a Derecho hit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park toppling large sections of forest in minutes on the northwestern section of the park. There were also 2 fatalities, and numerous injuries caused by this storm.

Great video! It it nice to have learned more about the storm that we feel we just barely lived through. We made it down the mountain from Clingman’s Dome in a Dodge 3500 dualie truck that was getting blown around. We felt so badly for hikers as we passed so many parked vehicles by trails.
i live in west virginia & it was just awful down here..my aunt had a visible tornado hit..everything is STILL not cleaned up
