This was an unexpected delight– found as I was hiking rather dense woodlands. They are usually found near grassy balds. There were several bushes clustered together– a bright vibrant spot of color.

Who wouldn’t be charmed by the Disney-like Fairy depicted in this fantastic, well-preserved old neon sign at Cherokee, NC’s Pink Motel. It’s near the NC entrance to Great Smoky Mountain National Park. (March, 2008)
