hah, someone got to do these reviews! 😀
hahah… yup!
I’ve camped there since I was a kid and I love it there. You have to know
which campsites to pick. Some of them have plenty of space and are
convenient to the bathrooms. They also sometimes have shows at the camp
store. It is also walking distance of a creek. The Loop is right by the
camp ground also so it has plenty of things to like hiking, sight seeing,
nature. There is also a picnic area right by the camp ground that sits at a
stream. This is one of my favorite places to camp
Showers: I’d expect lack of showers from a primitive campgrounds near
trails in deep woods… not from a popular destination along major routes.
Yeah, that makes sense. It required creative tent placement (or a few
Hennessy Hammocks!). Enjoy your vids.
nice! happy trails to you too
Tents: hmm, didn’t notice anyone having tents outside the platforms.. good
tip! Although, the campgrounds are still pretty tiny. Managing to put a
second 4-6 person tent that isn’t too close to the fire and the neighbors
and still have a practical way getting around it would be pretty tricky.
When go to Cades Cove, what are your main activities and why? Also, what do
you do about the lack of showers situation? Cheers!
hey bro your in my back yard,,,,,,there were two people killed in that camp
this weakend, trees fell in a storm,,,,,,,,yep,,,,,,,,,come back any time
bro
Well the sights are so small that having more than 1 or even 2 tents will
seem just too cluttered.. on my opinion at least. I think it’s 6 people
maximum (as it is with most of the campgrounds I’ve ever gone to). However,
you are totally right about the tent amount.
Generators: I don’t have the problems with them. I have a problem of
placing a primitive, rather back to the basics camp sights next to a more
modernized way of camping (caravan). People that do tent camping usually
(not all) are getting away from not only work and the city but also noises
that come with it.
As with any campground, it does come down to which campsite to grab right
away.
Tents: you can put a tent on the pebbles if you wish (only requirement is
that you have max. 2 tents) Trash: mainly for wildlife. If bears can smell
food, they will do their best to get it Generators: can only have them on
for a certain time each day When: anytime, beautiful year round Showers:
down the mountain at ‘Lazy Dayz’ you can use their showers for $5
Activites: the loop, as well as nearby Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg
There are no state troopers in Cades Cove. Smoky Mts Nat’l Park is federal
land, making it federal jurisdiction. Any patrol vehicles in the area are
probably park rangers.
Activities: Gatlinburg surprised us! We were not expecting an Orlando/Vegas
hybrid smack in the middle of the Smoky Mountains. Although seemed very
family friendly, to me it was too much of a corporate epicenter… I’d
rather see more of a locally owned mom & pop attraction over Planet
Hollywood.. if you know what i mean.
Yes, we should have said Authorities instead. Thanks for the heads up!
Well if you spend most of the time hiking and just stay at the campground
over night, it’s not that bad. BUT at the same time the park is sooooooooo
big, it baffles me to see such campground with spots soooooo close to
eachother. Same goes for Elkmont Campgrounds.
All your complaints about “car camping” would be solved by learning to camp
out of a canoe or set of large kayaks. I have friends that take their
Labrador dogs with us primitive camping on many rivers both flat water and
white water. Only time the dogs are on a leash is during meal time or when
running the vehicle shuttle to the takeout point downriver. Say good bye to
base camping! See u on the water. Go with a local club 1st.
My friends and I go to Cades Cove every summer. The statement that you need
2 sites for 2 tents is incorrect. We’ve had 3 tents before. The only
restrictions is on number of people (not sure what it is, but if you exceed
it, that’s when you require another site).
All that being said, I enjoyed the video. I’ve been camping at Cades Cove
since I was a kid in the 80’s. It’s a real Appalachian gem. The campground
there is definitely oriented for certain types of campers – people who
enjoy a close-knit, social, “family” style of camping. That definitely
comes into play when they hold their “Old-Timers Festival” in autumn. Then,
the entire campground gives the impression of one huge family reunion-style
gathering… and you cannot escape the music! =)
yep I’m going to be there bro……happy trails
major beard going on there…lol
Trash: All the bins throughout Smoky Mountains are bear proof. I don’t
think it wold make a big difference if the garbage would be picked up at 8
AM or 10 AM.
you’ll showers closer!
Love camping there because it’s so close to the hiking trails but I also
wish the camp sites were spread out a little further.
