what if there are people in the car, do you think black bears would try to get in?
I’m guessing since Bears are a creature of habit that this one may have been destroyed after this incident.

Not all southerners are stupid, but statistically speaking, the lowest educated people are more likely to be from the south. The top ranking states in education are: MA, CT, VA, NY, MI, MN… The bottom ranking states are: FL, GA, AL, NM, AZ… etc.
This doesn’t mean all or even most southerners are stupid, it just means there are more uneducated (or poorly educated) people in the south.
As the person said above, don’t leave food in the car. Black bears have a shortage of food. Therefore, they are looking for something to eat. Just don’t leave food in the car.
Believe it or not, I live in TN just about 30 minutes from Clingmans Dome and to be honest most, of them are yankees. When my family and I decide to go to the mountains, people usually from the North generally stop and take pictures and some of them are dumb enough to go up and try to touch an elk or something. It’s not the Southeners, it’s stupid people from the North. Black bears usually don’t attack unless they have young around. However, the people are dumb.
I’m pretty sure 30 people can fend off a bear… Also, stupid people generally carry guns ( at least in the south, where the density of stupid people is at its highest)

I realized at a verry young age that the only people who give two shits about any thing were the people I grew up in the country with. As far as everyone else they wont care about anything as long as it doesn’t affect them.
I thought that too, but this bear isn’t afraid of them, that in itself is horrifying. It would pay no attention to a horn, & these idiots would probable try to chase it away. Better the car then them (maybe). They think they’re Spielberg. One person yelled for them to honk their horn. There was one quick honk, several may have worked (shaking my head at how little people care about each other these days). Disgusting.. Can’t believe how they all circled that bear. They should all be dead.

If that bear smelled food & maybe wants to feed cubs, or is hungry enough for just itself, they are not going to out run it. Someone is going to die, and since they don’t know that bear, or how it’s day is going… it’s foolish possibly even deadly to treat it like a tame pet. It’s not putting on a show for them, it’s surviving.

Don’t leave food in your car, and it won’t matter. A bear that wants in your car will get in either way.

I don’t know that is kind of harsh, when you have a lot of people around you gain confidence that you are safe, I mean you really think a bear will try to harm itself by attacking when it is vastly outnumbered?, We obviously know it is not safe because it a wild animal, but cut them some slack.

I don’t think anyone blew their horn because if they had, the bear would’ve gotten startled and would’ve started attacking. But I agree with you that someone should have taken some form of action. 😉
